To First American’s Clients, Colleagues and Business Partners,
We have the great fortune of serving some of the most exceptional clients in the United States. Their organizations educate our children, revolutionize healthcare delivery, create American jobs and lead astounding innovations. They are changing the world. Our team at First American is deeply humbled and sincerely appreciative to play a small part in their success. We will never take for granted the faith our clients place in us.
In fiscal 2016, First American grew new business volume by 46%, to $605.2 million (which is our 4th straight year of greater than 25% growth) thanks to the hard work and dedication of our growing team. Our success is possible because of their passion to accomplish great things in business and in life. I am so grateful to work beside such genuine and ambitious business professionals.
In late 2015, our parent company, City National Bank, merged with Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and fiscal 2016 marked our first full year as part of RBC. We are proud to be a part of such well-respected, client-focused financial institutions.
Consistent with First American’s vision to become the best company to work for and the best company to work with, we earned national recognition in 2016, all based on anonymous employee surveys:
- FORTUNE 100 Best Medium Sized Workplaces in the U.S. (#14)
- FORTUNE 100 Best Workplaces for Women in the U.S. (#36)
- FORTUNE 100 Best Workplaces for Millennials in the U.S. (#16)
- FORTUNE 50 Best Workplaces for Giving Back in the U.S. (#26)
- FORTUNE 50 Best Workplaces for New College Grads in the U.S. (#41)
- FORTUNE 30 Best Workplaces in Finance & Insurance in the U.S. (#8)
- Best Places to Work in New York State (#2)
Our colleagues genuinely respect and care about one another. We have great people working toward a shared vision. But we also know that to stay successful, we need to challenge one another to get better each and every day.
The pace of innovation in our world is accelerating. It is likely that 10 years from now, we will look back at 2016 as a year of modest change and limited technological progress. That thought seems preposterous; however, our future world is likely to be one of incredible automation, machine learning and unforeseeable innovations. At First American, we are organized into small, empowered teams that are nimble and adaptable to the changing world of our clients. These teams are creating client-focused strategies, delivering new digital experiences and empowering clients with self-service options. Looking ahead, we are committed to investing in technologies that will help our colleagues and clients succeed in a changing world.
I am so proud of what our team has accomplished, yet there is much left to be done. I am profoundly excited about the future we are building together.
